What is an Entrepreneurial Fellow?
Entrepreneurial fellows at Ohio University provide expert entrepreneurial assistance to a teaching and learning program in entrepreneurship. Entrepreneurial fellows are practicing or retired entrepreneurs and/or professionals working in support of entrepreneurial businesses (e.g. lawyers; business angels; venture capitalists).

David Pidwell has been a partner with Alloy Ventures, a Silicon Valley venture capital firm, since January 1996. His investment activities are concentrated in the computer software industry. Mr. Pidwell is currently on the Board of Directors of Informatica Corp. as well as two privately held corporations. Previously Mr. Pidwell founded Rasna Corp., a mechanical design automation software company, was President and General Manager of the Mil-Spec Computer Division of Rolm Corp, and was a faculty member of Stanford University Graduate School of Business. He is currently a Trustee of the Ohio University Foundation, and a member of the dean’s advisory council for the Russ School of Engineering at Ohio University. Mr. Pidwell holds a BS degree in electrical engineering and a MS degree in industrial and systems engineering from Ohio University. He has completed 3 years of study at Stanford University on a PhD in engineering economic systems.

As an Ohio University student, Mr Friedman served leadership roles in several organizations including the early development of All Campus Radio Network (ACRN). In North Eastern Ohio he gained experience in sales, marketing, purchasing, banking, and computer services from his participation in many organizations. From 1985 to 2012 he served as the President and Chief Operating Officer, and various other management roles, for the National Biological Corporation. He has also served as president of Kenston Community Education and on the Executive Board of Temple Israel Ner Tamid. His personal objective is to contribute to the growth and success of entrepreneurs and entrepreneurship through executive leadership and the utilization of learned skills. He seeks to personally promote and continually develop the vision of rising entrepreneurs with active mentorship and structured guidance.

Carl N. Grant, III is Executive Vice President of Business Development for Cooley. He is known as a super-connector in the entrepreneurial ecosystem. Mr. Grant previously served as Executive Director of the Technology Industry for PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, where he led business development in the DC Metro Region. Prior to joining PwC, Mr. Grant managed the Capital Attraction Program for the Fairfax County EDA, an initiative that more than doubled the number of venture capital funds in that county. Immediately before joining Cooley, Mr. Grant served as VP, Business Development for two venture capital-backed technology companies in the northern Virginia area, EYECAST Corporation and cyberCFO. Mr. Grant also directed in a division of Multimedia, Inc. leading up to and through Gannett’s $1.7 billion acquisition of the company and served over 10 years in the Army National Guard and Reserve as an Airborne Infantry Officer, where he achieved the rank of Major. Mr. Grant is or has served on the boards of of High Tech Prayer Breakfast – DC Metro Inc, Catoctin Bible Church, Leadership Fairfax Inc, and the ACG National Capital Chapter.

Steve has profitably built and led businesses ranging from $40 million to $800 million in revenue. With full P&L responsibility, he has significantly increased Revenue, Profit and Return on Investment. His broad executive background includes leadership roles in General Management, Sales / Marketing and Operations with privately-owned and market-leading Fortune 500 companies. He has a strong grounding in Technology and monetizing emerging applications. Steve’s focus has been on growth strategies, especially in start up or early stage business development. His ability to innovate has led to significant success building new organizations and teams, and creating high volume sales, revenue and market share in both large corporations and start up / early stage businesses. His business acumen and expertise in subscriber-based, technology-focused service businesses has given him deep understanding and success at building traditional sales channels and strategic partnerships while establishing new products and brands in hyper competitive markets.

Mr. Wilhelm started his career as a Management Trainee at Hilton Hotel Corp. He held several management positions at The Waldorf-Astoria Hotel (NYC). He moved on to be the Director of Sales and Marketing as well as the Hotel Manager for the St. Regis Hotel in New York, NY. He was in charge of hotel financing and managed construction as a Vice President at CHASE Manhattan Bank Corp. REIT. Later he was the Executive Vice President and General Manager of the NYSE listed company Fairfield Communities. At Aspen Hotel Development Corp., a hotel company with 11 hotels in the Rocky Mountains region, he was the President & COO. He served as the Vice President of Trump Casinos and Hotels, focusing on operations, administration, and construction development. As President and CEO of Plaza Operating Partners Hotel Holding Company, he managed the acquisition and purchase of The Plaza Hotel in NYC , including a $37 million restoration. For seven years he managed all operations of the hotel company, including hosting the Ohio University 3rd Century Campaign kickoff at The Plaza. As President and CEO of Interbank-Brener (a division of InterBank) Mr. Wilhelm managed assets and projects for The World Trade Center NYC, Met Life’s hotel holdings, the Bank of Ireland, Credit Lyonnais, Basque Paris, The World Bank, and more. He oversaw the development and management of a group of 14 luxury boutique hotels and resorts as President and CEO of Island Outpost Hotels & Resorts. Finally, as President and CEO of Trust Hotels and Resorts he managed assets, investment funding, and company development with a group of hotels and related projects along the east coast–funded by Honeywell Pension Fund and other entities. Wilhelm was the 1991 Ohio University Alumni of the Year, The 1988 Waldorf-Astoria Distinguished Alumni of the Year, and a member of several board of directors including The Ohio University Inn, the Ohio University Foundation, The Ohio SEED Fund, and The Athenian Fund. He was also on the board of directors of the NY City Hotel Association, the Miami & The Beaches Tourism Board, St.Pete-Clearwater Board of Commerce, and was the founding chairman The Aspen Resorts Association. Four generations of his family have been involved with Ohio University, and he is proud to be a Bobcat.

Robert “Rocky” Mansfield boasts a long and fruitful career. Beginning as an Advanced Production Engineer at the Union Carbide Corporation in 1974, he soon made the move to Technical Sales Representative in 1976 and then to Senior Product Engineer in 1977. After 12 years in that position, Mr. Mansfield went to Eveready Battery Company in Westlake, Ohio to be the Staff Product Process Engineer. He then spent a year being a Consultant for the Renata Battery Company in Sisach, Switzerland, and in 2000, he became the Product Development Leader for Sensor Development Corporation in Rocky River, Ohio. In 2005, he was promoted to VP of Product Development & Manufacturing, and in 2009 he earned the position of COO and VP Manufacturing. In 2010, he returned to Athens to be the Vice President of Product Development for E3 Technologies. Throughout this time, from 1990 until present, he also has served as the CFO/CTO of Mansfield & Associates. Among his other impressive achievements, Mr. Mansfield holds four patents and has co-authored two publications. He also has been highly involved with Ohio University. He is a member of the Ohio University Alumni Association Board of Directors, active member of the Ohio Bobcat Club, and a guest speaker for the Voinovich School of Leadership. Also, he is an adviser to the Dean of the College of Business in helping to establish the Center for Entrepreneurship and an adviser on the commercialization for the Russ College of Engineering students in Entrepreneurship. Both a co-owner of The Over Hang and Grinders restaurants in town and a member of the Simonyi Business and Economic Council in Hungary, Mr. Mansfield has vast experience, and the Center for Entrepreneurship is excited to have him on board.

Mike Langer brings over 20 years of technology,marketing and business development experience to his position , where he is involved with prospects and clients in the areas of Mobile & Web application development and systems integration. Before becoming a Hawk, he was responsible for leading Northlich’s new business efforts and developing opportunities with existing clients. He also evaluated and enhanced the agency’s Interactive/Digital offerings to create additional value for clients. Prior to joining Northlich, he worked for Strata-G Communications and Upright Communications, two Cincinnati-based firms where he led new business initiatives and advised clients in areas such as SEO/Internet marketing, website design and usability, business workflow reduction, lead generation, social networking, and web metrics. His professional experience also includes positions as account manager, customer services manager, marketing coordinator, and business manager, which have contributed to his knowledge of e-commerce platforms, sales force automation, BPM, CRM, mobile solutions, application development and systems integration.
Mike has had the opportunity to work with a number of significant clients, including Procter & Gamble, xpedx, American Express, Microsoft, Shire, Wyeth, Premier Health Partners, Convergys, Diebold, KAO, OSU, Dental Care Plus Group, Warsteiner, Kroger, NKY Chamber & Cincinnati Chamber.
